I saw a purple Firebird today and thought wow you rarely see a purple car (it was very purple), but then as I began to pay attention while driving around I noticed a lot of different shades of purple. That led me to wonder - what is the least common color on a new car from the factory? Not a specific model, like a lime green Challenger, but overall the least common color to be found from any manufacturer. For purposes of discussion colors should be grouped by the primary shade - like neon green and lime green are all shades of green, and green isn't that uncommon.
I don't think it is purple, although that particular very purple shade is unusual. I think it is orange. You rarely see any orange cars, especially if they are not reddish-orange. What is more uncommon than a true orange car?

my furd was medium pine. my nova was mulsanne blue before the asshat PO painted it an awful matte yellow. (matte yellow looks good with greasy fingerprints all over the tops of the front fenders, on the drivers door (near the mirror) and on the driprail.

Orange is pretty common hthese days, particularly on small cars. You know what isn't? Dark green. No one makes that nice, dark metallic green anymore. I think you can get it on a mini, and a handful of the mid-level luxury brands.

This color... I saw it one time in an exhibition and though it was brick-red, but then it was dark orange and when I looked back it was copper.
My pops called me yesterday that there's a slight possibility he'll get one (in this color) this month, so fingers crossed.

I think purple.
Dodge has gotten back into offering orange as a factory color now. GM was offering orange on Cobalts for a while there.
But no one that I can think of does purple anymore. The Cobalts had a purple option but it was very rare, and I can't recall any car within the last 10 years that has offered purple as an option.

Oh, and that nasty cream color that they used to put on Civics in the late 80s.
It looked almost white...but as if it had somehow been stained...I have no clue who thought that was a good color.

I like how pretty much no one listened to this.

Glut Orange.
The fact that it costs 3500 or more probably keeps the take rate low.

In Germany you can get the a Golf GTD (and probably all the other Golfs as well) in 3 different shades of purple.
The Golf only comes in 6 total colors here!

Getting pretty rare indeed. Citroën used to make a lot of sky blue cars, but even them have stopped making the sky blue DS5.

True, I can't think of a factory pink car made recently. A pastel from the 50s I recall, but nothing recent.

What about metallic black? Don't see that very often.

Because I wanted one? How many other city cars have a rear engine and rear wheel drive? Wide tyres makes the thing handle like a go kart too...

What do you get for MPGs? I've read it's actually pretty poor. I know there are other advantages to having such a small car especially if you live in an actual city, but the poor gas mileage makes me kinda hate the Smart.

I average about 40 MPG in the Winter and 45-50 MPG in the Spring, Summer, and Fall.
A good thing to remember, is that the EPA tests for fuel economy using a rolling road and a computer simulation of real world driving, rather than actual real world driving.
While it shouldn't be used as an approximation as what to expect from a car, Fuelly does give you an idea of what some others get. Bear in mind, these are city cars, designed to troll around cities rather than cruise the highway. :)

I think we have a winner folks! I don't know of any other factory pink color, in any shade (rosy reds don't count). Not VW, not MINI, not Scion, not even Toyota. Nobody makes a factory available pink car today except Chevy...

I was going to say any 918 with the optional $63,000.00 (!) liquid metal paint, but I'd be willing to bet that most of the buyers will specify it in an attempt to let people know just how stupidrich they are, thus negating the exclusivity factor. They really should save their money for important and meaningful touches, like whale penis leather covered air vents and door lock knobs.

Someone else mentioned yellow...

I also want a purple car. And a green car.

JK Jeeps also come in orange. Purple PT Cruisers and Plymouth Prowlers I beleive. Although I still agree with purple, very rare.
